چکیده

We investigate the shuffle operation on regular languages represented by complete deterministic finite automata. We prove that f(m,n) = 2+2(2−1)(2−1) is an upper bound on the state complexity of the shuffle of two regular languages having state complexities m and n, respectively. We also state partial results about the tightness of this bound. We show that there exist witness languages meeting the bound if 2 6 m 6 5 and n > 2, and also if m = n = 6. Moreover, we prove that in the subset automaton of the NFA accepting the shuffle, all 2 states can be distinguishable, and an alphabet of size three suffices for that. It follows that the bound can be met if all f(m, n) states are reachable. We know that an alphabet of size at least mn is required provided that m,n > 2. The question of reachability, and hence also of the tightness of the bound f(m,n) in general, remains open.

Tight Lower Bound for the State Complexity of Shuffle of Regular Languages

The upper bound for the state complexity of the shuue of two regular languages is 2 mn ?1. We prove that this bound can be reached for some (not necessarily complete) deterministic nite automata with, respectively, m and n states. Our construction uses an alphabet of size 5.

On the Learnability of Shuffle Ideals

PAC learning of unrestricted regular languages is long known to be a difficult problem. The class of shuffle ideals is a very restricted subclass of regular languages, where the shuffle ideal generated by a string u is the collection of all strings containing u as a subsequence. This fundamental language family is of theoretical interest in its own right and provides the building blocks for oth...

Alternating Regular Tree Grammars in the Framework of Lattice-Valued Logic

In this paper, two different ways of introducing alternation for lattice-valued (referred to as {L}valued)  regular tree grammars and {L}valued top-down tree automata are compared. One is the way which defines the alternating regular tree grammar, i.e., alternation is governed by the non-terminals of the grammar and the other is the way which combines state with alternation. The first way is ta...

Synchronized Shuffle and Regular Languages

New representation results for three families of regular languages are stated, using a special kind of shuffle operation, namely the synchronized shuffle. First, it is proved that the family of regular star languages is the smallest family containing the language (a+ bc)∗ and closed under synchronized shuffle and length preserving morphism. The second representation result states that the famil...

Deterministic Fuzzy Automaton on Subclasses of Fuzzy Regular ω-Languages

In formal language theory, we are mainly interested in the natural language computational aspects of ω-languages. Therefore in this respect it is convenient to consider fuzzy ω-languages. In this paper, we introduce two subclasses of fuzzy regular ω-languages called fuzzy n-local ω-languages and Buchi fuzzy n-local ω-languages, and give some closure properties for those subclasses. We define a ...
